Travel Demand Forecasting

Metro Analytics has been actively engaged in travel demand modeling since the firm’s founding in 2009. Our highly-trained analysts have experience in the validation and application of models in more than 25 states. Their expertise extends to modeling economic conditions including freight and trucks; standards, procedures, and best practices; and development, calibration, and validation.
Our teams’ modeling experience has been rooted in MPO and statewide planning processes where our consultants and analysts have led or supported over 30 long-range transportation plans. We also understand the dynamics of modeling long-distance travel, including tourist travel and commercial operators.
Metro Analytics’ work in Travel Demand modeling is extensive and varied. Our teams have recently completed a series of model improvements and analysis of travel patterns for the St. Cloud Area Planning Organization in Minnesota; the Iowa DOT Statewide Travel Analysis Model Update; and the Huntsville MPO Regional Commuter Patterns Study. Our teams have also recently updated the truck components of the Kentucky Statewide Travel Model and are currently hard at work integrating REMI economic analysis tools into the Illinois Statewide Model. Metro Analytics teams are also currently using a combination of travel demand models, big data on travel patterns, and federal tools to estimate truck flows for freight studies in Atlanta, southwest Georgia, and northern Ohio and have prepared ridership forecasts for a proposed intercity rail corridor in North Carolina.
