Mike Brown, PE
Mike is an innovative entrepreneur and problem solver. He founded Metro Analytics in 2009 with a goal of attracting the nation’s top talent in urban planning. Mike is an experienced roadway and transit concept developer and travel demand modeler. In transit, he has led several successful FTA New Starts grants. He serves on TRB’s Intersection Design committee (AKD80).
Upon launching Metro Analytics, Mike followed his passion for innovative, alternative intersections, determined to steer the growing movement away from auto-oriented design and toward place-making designs. Mike created AlternativeIntersections.org a wiki-type site where visitors can log the location of and key attributes innovative designs. The site has since become the world’s largest database on these locations. Mike created InnovativeIntersections.org to highlight designs that can catalyze walkable mixed-use development. Mike also created StreetPlan.net, quickly becoming the most popular Complete Street cross-section development tool on the internet, with over 2,500 users. Mike is currently serving as Principal Investigator for NCHRP 08-124, a national guidebook on how state DOTs can manage corridors to achieve positive impacts for local economics and sustainable land use. Mike has a Master of Civil Engineering degree from Brigham Young University.
