Gwyn Kash, PhD, AICP Candidate
Dr. Kash has more than a decade of experience in identifying evidence-based paths towards more equitable cities. They leverage data to change the conversation among practitioners, government functionaries, and the communities we serve. They bring a unique combination of social science expertise, deep experience engaging communities, and record of conducting research that empirically diagnoses equity issues in transportation planning. They have published peer-reviewed articles in Transportation Research Part A, the Transportation Research Record, the Journal of Transport and Health, and the Journal of Planning Education and Research. Dr. Kash is recognized for their research expertise in community engagement, equity, gender, and secure transportation for women and LGBTQ travelers. They have classroom and workshop teaching experience and are an award-winning mentor of young researchers. Prior to pursuing their PhD, Dr. Kash began their career as a community organizer, where they gained experience catalyzing collaboration between residents of Harlem, New York and representatives of NYCDOT. Dr. Kash is a two-time recipient of the Eisenhower Graduate Transporation Fellowship and winner of the Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency. In their free time, they operate an educational social media account with more than 40,000 followers that provides transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people with tools for affirming and expressing their gender identities.
