Bradley Lane., PhD
Dr. Lane joins Metro Analytics as a Senior Research Affiliate after thirteen years in academia. He does research on sustainability-themed research questions around technological, economic, and infrastructure developments in urban transportation, and he frequently utilizes quantitative methods and GIS in his work. His most recent research projects study what many call “the three revolutions” of transportation: electric vehicles, connected and autonomous vehicle technology, and shared mobility. He looks at questions about the diffusion of these different technologies, and how it may impact the sustainability of transportation. He has also done extensive work on the factors influencing interest in and the diffusion of electric vehicles, the relationship between gasoline prices and public transportation provision and usage, and on causes and effects of investments in urban rail transit. Dr. Lane’s teaching experience includes courses in human geography, human impact on the environment, internships in Law and Society and Public Administration, policy analysis, research methods in Geography and Public Administration, sustainable transportation, transportation methods planning, urban and regional planning, and world regional geography.
Dr. Lane was an Associate Professor with tenure in the Urban Planning Program in the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at the University of Kansas from 2018 to 2023. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor at SPAA from 2013 to 2018, and an Assistant Professor in the Master of Public Administration Program at The University of Texas at El Paso from 2010 to 2013. He served as Chair of the Transportation Geography Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers from 2019-2021, as Vice-Chair from 2017-2019, and as a Board Member from 2011-2013 and again since 2023. He served as the Undergraduate Program Director for SPAA from 2017-2021, and has a lengthy record of service as a reviewer for numerous major journals in geography, planning, sustainability, and transportation.
Outside of the academy, Dr. Lane was a four-year letterwinner for the golf team at Rice University in college, was the Kansas Mid-Amateur Player of the Year from 2015, 2016, and 2017, and served as playing captain of team Kansas for the 2016 USGA State Team Championship.
